Rashed Bu Qara’a, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, gives some background about the huge Dubai World Central project
What was the motivation behind the DWC development?
Dubai World Central (DWC) – and DLC within it – is another example in a long line of strategic investments by the Government of Dubai that aims to continue the economic growth and diversification of the Emirate. Conceived as a self-contained economic platform or an aerotropolis, DWC will elevate Dubai’s position as a leading international hub for logistics, aviation, trade and commerce.
What are the advantages of Dubai as a logistics hub?
Dubai enjoys strategic geographical advantages of both being the logical gateway to the dynamic MENASA (Middle East North Africa South Asia) region as well as a midway point between the East and West. The Government of Dubai has further capitalized on this and built world-class infrastructure to facilitate the movement of goods in an efficient, scalable and business-friendly manner. The combination of Emirates Airline, Jebel Ali Port and now DWC/DLC provide a viable ecosystem to cater to the logistics needs of today and the future.
How will these developments improve existing logistics arrangements?
The integration of Al Maktoum International Airport within Dubai World Central, the connection to the Jebel Ali Port via a single custom bonded logistic corridor and easy access to all the major trans-emirate highway networks position Dubai World Central as a true multi-modal logistics platform. This proposition alone can create greater efficiencies and open up new business opportunities for many companies looking to expand their operations or looking for ways in which they can service their customers better and faster.
Beyond the access, there are various different offerings available in Dubai Logistics City at Dubai World Central to meet any requirements that logistics and trading companies may have – be it warehouses, offices, land or direct access to cargo terminals.
In what ways will DWC impact the MENA region?
DWC opens up new possibilities in how regional and global companies manage their supply chain, especially when it comes to distribution across the broad MENASA region. Given all the advantages that living and working in Dubai offers, there’s no better place to base your operations and take advantage of the dynamic opportunities that the MENASA markets provide.
